On Wednesday, May 25, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) greeted aluminium industry leaders from all over the world in Dubai at the 50th-anniversary meeting of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

The International Aluminium Institute brings together the global aluminium industry to promote industry’s activities and responsibilities towards the production of green aluminium and its sustainable usage.

IAI has members from all verticals of the industry like bauxite, alumina, and aluminium. The activities of the association are monitored by a Board of Directors, with each member company represented at a senior executive level.

After the meet and greet, IAI board members paid a visit to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to hear about the United Arab Emirates’ Energy Strategy 2050. Since aluminium production is energy-intensive, decarbonising electricity generation is of utmost importance for industry to achieve net-zero by 2050.

n 2021, EGA was the first company in the world to use solar power for the production of aluminium, marketed under the brandi called CelestiAL.

Abdulnasser bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said, “EGA makes the UAE the fifth largest aluminium producing nation in the world, and we were pleased to welcome the global aluminium industry’s leaders to Dubai. Aluminium is lightweight, strong and infinitely recyclable, making it an essential material for developing a more sustainable society. It also matters how sustainably aluminium is made, and the International Aluminium Institute is a forum to progress the responsibility agenda across the industry as a whole.”
